Uber's autonomous future

The recent announcement that Uber has acquired Otto and is working in partnership with Volvo provides the clearest indication of Uber's vision for the future, and it doesn't include drivers behind the wheel.

Otto is a technology company dedicated to rethinking transportation, and has started by tackling the requirements of self-driving trucks. "Long-haul transit is vital for nearly 70% of the things we buy, yet hundreds of thousands of preventable trucking accidents happen each year on American highways".

In addition, Volvo will work with Uber to provide a vehicle platform, which both parties will use for their respective autonomous car developments.
