An interesting announcement from a company called AppyParking which is rolling out a network of real-time sensors from Nwave to provide occupancy data for disabled parking bays for Reading Borough Council.

The Smart City initiative is financially supported by the European SIMON project for assisted mobility for older and impaired users.

The use of this type of technology has been used extensively, however, the application of using it for disabled parking raises questions about how other technological solutions might be re-purposed to support members of society with mobility impairements.
