Over Reliance on Mobile Comms

A Tesla driver was stranded in the desert because the keyless Smartphone app used to open and start the car couldn't get a mobile signal.

The owner, Ryan Negri had stopped in Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas, but when he came to leave he found "with no cell service, my phone can't connect to the car to unlock it". Luckily, on this occassion, the owner was able to summon help, but it does highlight the issues of over reliance on the presence of mobile communications infrastructure, and the need to ensure contingencies are in place to cope with the lack of a signal.
