Can your smartphone make you a safer driver?

With the ever increasing number of distracted driver incidents which occur, could a voluntary Smartphone App help solve the problem?

After nearly crashing his car whilst driving and texting, 30 year old Tudor Cobalas from Romania developed a Smartphone App "SafeDrive" to discourage phone use while driving. The App works by locking out the user when it exceeds a 10kmh threshold, and rewards drivers with points for continued non-use of the phone. The App has reportedly clocked up over 100,000 users so far, world-wide, and is available in a 'white label' version for businesses, so could be an excellent tool for fleet users.
