Data, Drones, and Developments

As we cross the halfway mark of the world's leading mobility event, it has been all about moving from "vision" to "operational reality".

A couple items of interest coming off the exhibition floor today:

The "Digital Twin" Revolution

A major theme today has been the rapid adoption of Digital Twin technology to optimise traffic signal operations. Leading innovators like Kapsch TrafficCom are showcasing how these virtual models are no longer just for planning, they are now driving real-time safety and emission reductions.

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Takes Flight

Today featured a deep dive into embedding drones into urban transport networks. The discussion focused on how cities can practically integrate low-altitude air mobility into sustainable urban mobility planning (SUMPs) to solve last-mile logistics challenges.

News from the major players:

Yunex Traffic

"Your Challenge. Your Partner. Your Solution": Yunex is centering its 2026 presence on three core use cases: improving road safety through AI-enabled perception, reducing environmental impact with adaptive traffic control, and optimizing existing road capacity using data-driven solutions.

Next-Gen Management: A key showcase is the Yutraffic Symphony, their next-generation traffic management platform designed to turn raw data into actionable city insights.

Safety Tech: They are demonstrating Yutraffic awareAI, which uses intelligent control and detection to protect vulnerable road users at urban intersections.

Swarco

Major Contract Win: Swarco announced a €24m long-term contract with the Austrian motorway operator, Asfinag. The deal involves upgrading messaging technology, with Swarco delivering and servicing up to 2,100 LED displays over the next decade and providing maintenance for 25 years.

Exhibition Highlights: The company is maintaining a massive presence across two halls (Hall 2 for ITS and Hall 7 for Road Marking Systems). Key focus areas include AI in traffic control, Cooperative Connected Automated Mobility (CCAM), and an extended Virtual Reality Product Explorer.

Daily Insights: Swarco's CEO, Michael Schuch, shared insights on the business's evolution, highlighting ten flagship projects across four continents and the increasing importance of cyber security in transport infrastructure.

The takeaway?

We aren't just talking about "smart" anymore, we're talking about interoperable and scalable.

The data exchange platforms being demoed today (like the TLEX Interchange) are finally breaking down the silos between parking, traffic management, and charging.
